Cake the most of now

My friend who ordered these warned me – the subject is cupcakes for accountants, but it's boring and I don’t know what you can do! I think that was the moment I was switched on to the challenge, completely convinced we could make something funky out of it.
I googled “accounting cupcakes” and not surprisingly, nothing relevant came up. So we chose a calculator theme because apparently accountants have a calculator attached to one hand. We also played with their corporate name which was lots of fun. Wouldn’t mind if I had to do more corporate-related projects! There’s something appealing about making a logo worth millions of dollars into something small enough to eat.

Popping out to the shops

The birthday girl who I did this cake for specified that if I was ever to make her into a figurine, I should give her noticeably ample boobs. I hope she was satisfied with this rack!
Not hard to guess that she is also a shopaholic - and close friend of mine, hehe.

This was my first attempt at a figurine and it went surprisingly well, no head or limbs falling off, thank goodness. The hardest part was making each section in isolation, eg visualising how the skirt/bottom part would look sitting on the edge of a box while I had no top to place on it yet. It definitely got easier as I went along.
Oh and there was also another first - the matching cupcakes actually had ice cream inside. Way too delicious to be modest about, sorry! ;)

Once a little onesie

I've seen some onesie cakes and they always look so cute. I was given free rein with a baby shower cake again so I thought I'd try it out. The hardest part was deciding on the colours! Lol. I thought I'd keep it pretty simple as I wasn't sure if the mother-to-be would like an over-the-top pink cake (I realise not everyone is a pinkaholic like me), then embellish with pink and a couple of other soft shades.

Farewell, cupcake!

When in doubt, say it with cupcakes... although I never realised there were so many ways to say goodbye! Love the "Toodle-oo!" This order was made for my friend Jenny by her workmate for her work leaving do. I was only too happy to oblige. The farewellee (is that a word?) is off to London. We'll miss you!

Mixed bag of frens for a hens

Can you IMAGINE just how much fun I had with this order. I was in my ELEMENT!!
This was for a hens night, one cupcake per guest supposedly... but I think we went off track a little. I doubt any of them had blue hair and red eyes. Well maybe they did for that night, who knows!
Would love to do more projects like this (have to admit it made me re-think my own hairstyle a little). I can't believe I get paid to have this much fun!

Cake for a Christening

A pretty yet understated cake that says it all. Happy Christening Sienna!

This is the first time I've covered the actual cake board with fondant too. I quite like the effect, I think it gives it a nice finish. Also got the hang (finally) of using that rubber pearl string maker... major tip: use a lot of cornflour!

Thomas the tank cake

An icon of children's entertainment, I knew I had to get this one exactly correct. One slip of the (edible) marker and Thomas could be scowling instead of grinning!
Constructing this one felt like I was building an actual toy train. I wish I'd documented the process because certain parts had to go on before other parts otherwise it would not have looked right, but it was sometimes tricky to figure out which one had to be next.
Completing this felt like somewhat of an achievement, I was grinning as much as Thomas is!

Licence to cake

I had a bit TOO much fun with this cake! A good friend of mine had a birthday so a few of us got thinking to try to come up with the perfect cake to express how we feel about her. The ideas went flying fast and furious, we even had to take a vote to decide on the final design. Lucky she's a good sport! We decided on a driver licence cake because of her many infamous backseat driving moments. We were even kind enough to grant her a GOLD licence! It expires exactly one year after her birthday, which means she's got a year to get her real one!
The cupcakes need a bit of explaining too.. intermingled with pictures of her, there are head shots of "really hot guys" who she fancies, but we had to break up the fun a bit with a picture of Nathan Rees, who is NOT her favourite politician ;) The cupcakes were white chocolate strawberry and chocolate mint, both new flavours I've just tried and will be baking again really soon!
Hope you had a fantastic birthday Sathya! Can't wait till the next collaborative birthday cake! Now who's next...
